Organisations Fund application data - 2014-16

The Organisations Fund supports outstanding arts and cultural organisations with triennial funding of $70,000 or more per annum. Funding for the current triennium, 2014-2016 was awarded in October 2013 to 35 organisations.

How were the successful organisations selected?

The organisations who received funding were able to demonstrate effective management practices and showed they are developing strong commercial business models by using government investment to leverage other funding.

It was a highly competitive funding round, with independent peer review.

Who was successful?

The 2014-2016 triennial round of the Organisations Fund attracted 59 applications. Of these applications, 35 (59%) were successful.

Multi-arts, Theatre and Visual Arts, Craft and Design were the art forms with the highest number of applications (11 each). Visual Arts, Craft and Design had the highest number of successful applicants (8).

How much?

  • $39,449,553 was requested by 59 applicants
  • $21.2 million was invested in 35 organisations over three years 2014–16
  • Successful applicants received an average of 71% of their initial funding request.
  • The average amount requested by unsuccessful organisations was $383,136 while the average of successful organisations was $864,408.
  • The average invested per organisation was $605,548 over three years.
  • Theatre organisations received the largest proportion of the funding (25%) followed by Visual Arts, Craft and Design (19%).

Who applied?

Based on their organisational focus, applicants could identify with one or more of the following groups:

  • 23 of the applicants were organisations based in regional areas (15 successful)
  • 3 were organisations focused on children (2 successful)
  • 7 were youth organisations (2 successful)
  • 2 applicants were organisations focused on people with a disability (both successful)
  • 11 were community engagement applicants (6 successful)
  • 4 were culturally and linguistically diverse applicants (2 successful)
  • 3 Indigenous organisations applied (1 successful)

 

Of the 35 successful applicants:

  • 22 were previous triennially-funded organisations
  • 12 had received annual organisation or project funding
  • 1 was a new entrant

Programs supported

Applicants were also able to identify if their programs were aimed at one or more of the following specific groups. Most of the applications included programming in regional areas (55 out of 59) or for young people (48 out of 59). Around 90% of successful applications included programming for regional areas and/or young people.

Queensland arts and cultural organisations are also supported through the Queensland Arts Showcase Program, the Playing Queensland Fund, the Arts Leverage Fund and the Arts Business Innovation Fund.
